Dementia Action Week, 2018

Are you living with dementia, caring for someone with dementia or simply interested in finding out more about the condition? Then why not come along to one of our Dementia Action Week events? We hope this year's programme will continue to help Twyford gain recognition as a Dementia Friendly Village. For further details about any of the events, please email Shirley Pearce or Gordon Storey

Sat 12 May, Dementia Action Week Information Tent

Where: Opposite entrance to Waitrose
When: 9am-1pm
Details: Twyford Together volunteers will be publicising our programme for Dementia Action Week. Plus, we'll be giving out leaflets and providing information for anyone who would like to find out more about dementia. 

Sat 19 May, Charity Barn Dance

Where: Loddon Hall
When: 7.30pm-11pm
Details: Get your dancing shoes on and raise money for a new Twyford based charity, Understanding Dementia. There’ll be a live ceilidh band and caller so you won’t need to be an expert. Adults £8.50 (or £7.50 if you book by 12 May); children £5.00. Please bring a savoury plate for the buffet and we’ll provide desserts. There’s a pay bar and a raffle with some great prizes donated by local businesses. Family and group tickets are also available. Email Shirley Pearce at for further details or tickets.

Mon 21 May, Understanding Dementia

Where: St. Mary's Church Centre
When: 7pm for 7.30pm
Details: A presentation by Shirley Pearce about dementia, how it affects the person and how we can lessen its impact. Shirley will be available afterwards for further discussion.

Tues 22 May, Understanding Dementia

Where: Emma's Kitchen
When: 3pm
Details: Another chance to hear Shirley Pearce's presentation about dementia, how it affects the person and how we can lessen its impact. Shirley will be available afterwards for further discussion.

Tues 22 May,  Mindfulness: How It Can Help Carers and Those Living with Dementia

Where: Bridge House Nursing Home
When: 2-3pm
Details: A talk by Phil Richards of Twyford Therapy.

Wed 23 May, Benefits Check-up Café

Where: Age Concern Day Centre, Polehampton Close
When: 11am-1pm
Details: If you are unsure about what you can claim or how to fill in a form, Age Concern can help you with applications and useful advice relating to Attendance Allowance, PIP or DLA claims, Carer’s Allowance, Blue Badge Parking Scheme, Personal Budgets, Council Tax and Housing Benefits. Have a chat and a free cuppa at our Benefits Check-up Café!

Thurs 24 May, Alzheimer's Society Information Session

Where: Waitrose staff canteen
When: 5.30-6pm
Details: Do you have clients, staff or family managing dementia and wish you understood more? Join us at a free Alzheimer’s Society information session in the Waitrose staff canteen and become a Dementia Friend, as an individual or a business. Refreshments provided.
